You have a Facebook Business account, now what? If you want to reach more people, and are willing to invest a couple of dollars, Facebook advertising is a great option. You can even do this from the comfort of your own home. Simply log in to your Facebook Business account and access the ‘Ads Manager’ located in the “Ads” section of Business Suite.
Choose an Objective
When you create a Facebook advertisement it’s important to know what you want your objective to be. Facebook will ask you to select from several different options, so ask yourself what you’re trying to achieve. The most common go-to is either ‘Get More Website Visitors’ to increase site traffic, or ‘Promote your Page’, to get people to like, follow your page or reach as many people as possible.
Set a Budget and Schedule
When it comes to setting a budget there are a couple of options. You can either a) have a daily budget (total daily spend) or b) have a lifetime budget. A lifetime budget enables you to put in a total campaign budget, which Facebook will spread out evenly over the duration of your campaign. You can then either set up start and end dates for your campaign, or you can start it right away.
Facebook will eat up your budget based on a variety of factors, including not only impressions, reach and link clicks, but also timing, placement and competition. These costs are constantly fluctuating, but as a ballpark figure, in 2021 you will pay between $0.50 – $3.00 per click depending on your ad specifications.
Define Your Target Audience
Facebook enables you to clearly define your target audience, right down to the smallest details. You are able to select a certain location (and the radius), a specific age group, gender and specific interests. If your objective is to get more page likes, you can choose to exclude people who have already liked or followed your page, so you spend your budget more wisely. Facebook will then give you an estimate of the number of people your ad will reach (how many people will see the ad) and the estimated number of new page likes.
Select the Type of Advertisement
Facebook will automatically give you a type (style) of advertisement based on your objective. However, there are many different styles available, including image ads, video ads, carousel ads (multiple images displayed as a slider), and more.
Write a Caption
When it comes to the ideal length of social media captions, less is more. Facebook ad captions are no exception to the rule. Keep in mind that you will need to be strategic about what you’re writing in order to increase your chances of meeting your goals and objectives. As a general rule of thumb:
- Ad headline: 5 words
- Ad body text/ caption: 14 words
- Facebook ads link descriptions: 18 words
